Meet Katie
Owner/Baker
I am a mom to amazing children, a nana to even more amazing humans, and a wife to a loving, supportive husband.
I have lived in Modesto most of my life and have come to love and appreciate our community.
Something I have always done to make me feel like I contributed to life and community is supporting my local small businesses rather than big chain stores. I frequented the local farmers market twice per week and followed as many small businesses on social media as I could. I was scrolling through IG one day and I saw that my favorite little sourdough bread gal, that only sold at farmers markets, was moving to North Carolina, and was selling her baking equipment. Without even thinking, my heart took the leap and messaged her.
Before I knew it, I was at her house learning about everything that she did. I took out everything we had in savings, and bought her “bakery”. Finally, my superpower showed up and I took the leap of faith and ran with it!
Aside from observing for a day the process of making sourdough, I am self taught from reading, watching videos on YouTube, and trial and error. The learning is ongoing, as I find myself learning a different, easier way to make better bread.
I am motivated by the creation of something so simple, albeit a delicate art filled with science, love, and intuition, that brings so many benefits to other people, both pleasure and health. I have spent a lifetime searching for my “superpower” and it finally hit me as a heart full of passion, motivation, and fulfillment as I embarked on the bread making journey.
My heart is so full just talking about making bread…something you would think is so simple but is a combination of hard work, determination, intuition, science, love, and the biggest motivator, providing something that brings other people joy and satisfaction.

Matkat Sourdough is a Cottage bakery run out of a converted garage. Specializing in naturally fermented sourdough breads, lots of different flavors, and sourdough treats like chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, and pretzels!
Meet KRYSTA
Market Assistant
Hi, I’m Krysta. Full-time mom and wife, part-time brow artist. I started dental assisting at 17, but once I got pregnant with my daughter at 25 I wanted a job where I could be my own boss. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I definitely attribute that to my mom. I couldn’t be prouder of her and to be working for her awesome business!

MANAGER
Hello! My name is Kayla and I am a wife and a mom to three amazing kiddos! I was a dental assistant for almost 8 years and a dance instructor for 18. Now I am manager at MatKat Sourdough!! I am so excited to be on this journey with my mom building this amazing company!
